Mahal, Kashan, Lilihan, Kerman, Tabriz, Hariz and Malayer are a
few of the rug types available. These are also cities and villages located in Iran. Each
city produces their own pattern and color choices.

Depending on how many people are weaving, it can take several
months to several years. Of course, size and patterns are two variables that contribute to
how long a rug takes to be completed.

Most people ask about the number of knots per square inch;
however, that is only one of several criteria for rug quality. Wool quality is a major
distinguishing consideration. Persian rugs are made from merino wool. The wool is taken
from the neck and belly of the sheep; considered to be the softest area.

Have your rug repaired by an experienced oriental rug dealer.
Rugs, like fine oil paintings, should be restored to preserve the beauty and heritage of
the piece. The warp threads or the base of the rug should be replaced and the wool should
be hand knotted to replace the pattern.
